A refreshing return to the fun after last weeks plodding of 21. Nim's Island is based on the children's book and to be honest, I have never read it. But the film I have seen. With a feeling of going back to the silly, cheesy, live action Disney films of old you get Nim's Island. The show is fun and playful. It is also definately geared towards younger children. Adults will walk out nodding their head because the show was decent and pretty clean, but children will be the ones finding joy and connection with Nim.
The film in itself is all over the place in how it flows, but most will get through that because the thought of being on a deserted island with your dad, animals that love you, and a perfect beach will get those childlike thoughts going when you used to play like you were stranded on an island.
Seeing Jodie Foster clumsily falling all over puts you right back into the set of Freaky Friday. Are you sure she is a grown up? Abagail is the star of this show. Gerard Butler (although not perfect) manages his American accent well and after seeing Phantom you will do a double take to make sure it is the same guy. His character is very likable. I was not as big a fan of Jodie's role, but it sets up the message of the story well so I will take it.
Have fun and be sure to watch looking through the eyes of a child.
